Who is this course for?

This course is for experienced advisers who sometimes deal with complex benefit queries concerning non-UK nationals. You will need to be familiar with Universal Credit. You will preferably have some experience of the EU freedom of movement rules.

Aims

It will provide advisers with an understanding of the issues that may be relevant when advising non-UK nationals claiming Universal Credit. It will cover the relevance of the EU settlement scheme to entitlement to Universal Credit.

Objectives

At the end of this course you will understand:

  • Why it is important to understand a person’s immigration status when claiming Universal Credit
  • When claiming Universal Credit could affect a person’s ability to stay in the UK
  • How Universal Credit is calculated when one member of a couple is subject to immigration control
  • When and how freedom of movement rules can still apply to EEA nationals and their family members
