Who is this course for?

This full-day course is for experienced advisers who sometimes deal with complex benefit queries concerning EEA nationals and their family members. You will need a broad understanding of the social security benefit system. This course does not look at benefit issues concerned with other immigration issues for non-EEA nationals.

Aims

The course will provide advisers with an understanding of the issues that may be relevant when advising EEA nationals and their family members. It will cover the relevance of a suitable right to reside to entitlement to Universal Credit. The course is designed to enable the adviser to enable the adviser to identify cases in which the right to reside is an issue and provide options for advising clients in these circumstances.

Objectives

At the end of this course you will:

• Understand why advising EEA nationals is so difficult
• Be aware of the different ways EEA nationals and their family members can have a right to reside
• Understand who can apply for settled and pre-settled status
• Understand the advantages and disadvantages of the available rights to reside when claiming Universal Credit
• Begin to understand the questions that need to be asked for advice to be given
• Know who to refer to for relevant advice
